Flashing Above Door Vinyl Siding

If you have vinyl or metal flanged windows for instance you can install drip cap flashing 4 the home depot over the window itself or over the top trim piece that you install. For a wood window unit drip cap flashing can be installed over the trim piece often called brick molding that comes. The type and location of the flashings will vary depending on the type of windows and doors. If necessary remove a few pieces of siding nail the undersill then replace the siding.

Installed this way any rain water that hits the siding above the flashing can run behind it into the roof house structures. Use an old rag to remove any dirt or debris that may be there. Attach the flashing tape above the window and then slip the drip cap into the siding and attach to the tape. Whatever material is used all pans should have a dam on the ends and along the inside edge.

If you need two or more pieces of flashing overlap the joints by 4 in. Figure 3 27 above pan flashing and threshold details below an entry door. And seal with silicone caulk. On the exterior the pan flashing should lap over the deck or masonry flashing below.

Cut the drip cap to the correct size for your window. Figure 3 26 above flashing details above and below an exterior door. It is always recommended to install step flashing behind stucco dryvit wood panel lap siding vinyl siding cedar shingle siding etc. Using a pry bar you will need to remove a layer of siding from above the window you want to install the drip cap on.

Tack z flashing over the channel extending it slightly past the cutout on both sides. In certain instances flashing may need to be installed on the exterior of siding. However in most instances step flashing should be installed behind siding. If the shingle already has flashing on it the kickout flashing has to slip beneath it and you ll have to loosen or remove siding to do this.
